Police recover hijacked truck

Johannesburg - Metro police spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago said on Saturday that a hijacked truck carrying 24 tons of steel haf been recovered in Brakpan, Ekurhuleni

"The Equestrian Unit members of EMPD this morning [on Saturday] recovered an articulated truck hijacked in in Vereeniging on the R23 - the Heidelberg road.

"The truck was found abandoned with its load still intact."

The hijacked driver was dropped off in Balfour, Mpumalanga.

The truck owner confirmed that his driver had been hijacked in Vereeniging in the early hours of Saturday and dropped off in Balfour, Mpumalanga, Kgasago added.

"The twenty-four ton roll of steel on the truck was untouched. It is suspected that the perpetrators got cold feet and abandoned the truck along the R23 road in the Brakpan area," he said.

The recovered truck was taken to SAPS Van Ryn's Deep pound for safe-keeping.
