Kimberley - Rubber bullets were fired to disperse a crowd of about 100 people who threw stones at police raiding a dagga dealer in Calvinia on Friday, Northern Cape police said.
Captain Cherelle Ehlers said members of the Namaqualand crime prevention unit searched a house in Calvinia West where they confiscated dagga with an estimated value of R900 and arrested a 34-year-old man.
Ehlers said that as the police were leaving the house around 11:00 a crowd of some 100 people surrounded them and began throwing stones. One policeman was hit on the hand but no-one else was injured.
Ehlers said police fired six rubber bullets to disperse the crowd.
The arrested man was expected to appear in court soon and an investigation was being conducted into the incident, Ehlers said.
