Pretoria - Specialised service centres would be introduced to help victims of sexual offences, National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega said on Monday.

Phiyega told Eyewitness News about 160 centres with forensic social workers and psychologists were introduced at police stations around the country.

The commissioner’s announcement comes after the rape and mutilation of Bredasdorp teen Anene Booysen last week.

Meanwhile, the body of an 11-year-old girl was also found buried under a shack in North West.

The 41-year-old owner of the shack has confessed to killing the little girl. The man had been out on parole since November 2011 after serving 16 years of his 27-year sentence for the 1995 murder and rape of a woman in Brits, The Star reported.

After finding used condoms, wristwatches, earrings as well as a pair of pants with holes cut in the private parts area and the backside in the suspect’s shack, police suspect that more women might have been attacked.

They are also investigating whether the 11-year-old girl was raped.

Meanwhile, nine teenage boys in the Free State have been arrested for gang raping a woman who had been walking home with her husband in the early hours of the morning, Eyewitness News reported.

Police say there could be more boys involved.
