Johannesburg - Former DA MP Douglas Gibson's son allegedly was attacked by a policeman outside the FNB Stadium in Soweto, the Saturday Star reported.

Gibson's son, Donald, and friends were at the Test between the Springboks and New Zealand last Saturday when the incident happened, according to the report.

"While waiting in the car park, a police van pulled up. Several men climbed out. Then the door of the van just fell off and there was a roar of laughter from bystanders," Gibson told the newspaper.

"People [including Donald] were laughing and taking pictures as they tried to put the door back on. It was all good-natured."

Gibson told the Saturday Star one of the men pointed at his son and said "I know where you live".

Donald told the man he would not put the photos on social networking sites Facebook or Twitter.

The man then punched Donald between his jaw and his ear.

"[Donald] fell on the back of his head. People around him thought that he was dying," Gibson said.

Donald had been in the intensive care unit at a Johannesburg hospital since the incident.
