Cape Town - A department of health medical practitioner who administered medical services to prisoners at Pollsmoor Prison admission centre in Cape Town has been suspended from duty.
The doctor's suspension followed allegations of misconduct levelled against him and comes after Pollsmoor management approached the health department last week.
Correctional services declined to give details of the allegations.
Spokesperson Eddie Johnson said medical services to prisoners at the admission centre would not be compromised as relief practitioners had been sourced by the health department to continue rendering services.
Contacted at his practice, the doctor confirmed he had been suspended.
"I have not been favoured with the courtesy of the charge sheet."
He said the matter was in the hands of his lawyers.
