Polokwane celebrates as Mamabolo returns

Polokwane - Polokwane residents poured into the streets on Tuesday to celebrate with Ludwick Mamabolo, who returned home after winning the Comrades Marathon in Durban at the weekend.
A convoy about 100m in length stretched along the streets, with blue-light vehicles leading the way.
Mamabolo become the first South African winner of the annual ultra-marathon in seven years when he won the 89km race on Sunday.
"I am very happy he did it. We are [all] Mamabolo's today," said one resident who abandoned her shopping to join the celebration.
People sang at the office of Premier Cassel Mathale where Mamabolo received a trophy from the provincial government.
Mamabolo’s father, Jeremiah, said his son had changed their lives.
"We have seen visitors [with] TV cameras," said Jeremiah Mamabolo.
"People don't [usually] stop to visit and wish us well."
He said his son had been a keen sportsman from a young age, playing soccer and competing in road running events.
The street leading to Mathale's office was blocked for nearly three hours during celebrations.
