Johannesburg - Three men were arrested on Sunday in connection with the murder of a 40-year-old farmer at Potchefstroom, North West police said.

Lieutenant Colonel Lesego Metsi said Johannes Strydom was attacked at the gate of his farm, Naderfontein, on Saturday at about 13:00.

"The suspect hit Strydom with a blunt object and he died. He (the suspect) then dragged his body into the garage, took a Mazda bakkie, cellphone and wallet before fleeing."

Metsi said the car was found abandoned in the Potchefstroom CBD.

A 21-year-old -man was arrested on Sunday at a neighbouring farm. He then pointed out two more people who were found in possession of the wallet and cellphone, Metsi said.

The 21-year-old man was charged with murder and house robbery and the other two with possession of stolen goods.

The three men were expected to appear at the Potchefstroom Magistrate's Court on Monday.
