Johannesburg - Power is expected to be restored in Silverton and Silvertondale later on Tuesday, the City of Tshwane said.

The power failure on Monday was caused by vandalism and cable theft, municipal spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said in a statement.

The power supply was initially expected to be restored by midnight on Monday.

Repairs, however, took longer than expected, but it was anticipated the problem would be fixed during the course of Tuesday.

"It is unfortunate that the city's residents must endure the disruption of services as a result of criminal actions. The city apologises for the inconvenience caused to the affected residents."
