Pretoria - The North Gauteng High Court has ordered the Passenger Rail Agency of SA (Prasa) to pay a man, injured in a train accident, more than R3.8m, The Star reported on Tuesday.

Tobias Maluleka was 17-years-old and travelling to Wonderboom mall by train when it was hit from behind near Akasia station in April 2011.

He sustained injuries to his head and a deformed arm.

Doctors testified that because of the deformity, he could not carry heavy objects, which limited his employment prospects.

He was also unable to complete his matric, as he could no longer do garden work, which paid for his schooling. He could also not cope with his studies after the accident.

Maluleka wanted to become a soldier, but this was now no longer possible. He was currently unemployed.

The court ordered Prasa to pay him R3.6m for future loss of earnings, and additional payments for medical expenses and damages.
