Premier not the drunken woman in video

2012-04-02 12:17

East London - Eastern Cape Premier Noxolo Kiviet is not the woman seen making racist remarks in a YouTube video that went viral, a report says.

Local sports club owner Thoko Mlonyeni is actually the woman in the controversial clip, The Saturday Dispatch reported.

The cellphone recording, posted on YouTube by Capetonian Ben Jensen, shows a woman in a sports bar laughing and joking. She says:  “All blacks are liars. Only white people tell the truth.”

The video was reportedly filmed just before midnight on 24 February.

It was alleged that the video showed Kiviet in the Old Selbornian Club in East London bragging about skipping her court appearance earlier this year.

The ANC in the Eastern Cape responded with anger to the video, condemning both Jensen and media outlets which posted the clip.

Kiviet’s spokesperson, Manelisi Wolela , said the ruling party had  instructed their attorneys to take legal action against those who had  spread the video, the Dispatch reported.

“I am going to nail the person that posted the video,” Kiviet told the newspaper.

The premier said she had known about the video for quite a while “but at first I thought the person who filmed it should just go to hell.  Now that it has spiralled out of control, I am disgusted”.

She said Jensen was “silly” and his actions amounted to defamation. She said she’s never even heard of the Old Selbornian Club.

since when has it become wrong to post public videos? if a public figure makes an idiot of themselves then its their own problem. who cares if it lands on the internet. its your own fault. i just wish they would spend all the time they are complaining actually doing some decent work and fixing this country. Im not getting much worth as a taxpayer

  • Sechaba - 2012-04-02 12:34

okay Kiviets, hopefully you gonna nail him with the money from your own pocket not tax payers money, the guy should just apologise and you must accept it. if you look like the club owner what is the poor guy to do.... i hope he is sorry for assuming that your look-a-like is you

      Nosiphom - 2012-04-02 12:58

Good one Sechaba. Nothing wrong with Kiviets nailing the guy and suing him dry, but using here own money because she will be the one benefiting if she succeeds anyway. With the state of affairs in EC it would be criminal for her to consider using taxpayers money for getting her name clean!

  • Mpho - 2012-04-02 12:37

the real shame is that EC government are happy to waste their money on persuing this. Are there no real problems in the province? I'd like to see a headline "EC Government wastes much needed resources on 100 hit youtube video".

ahmen Mpho, couldn't have said it better myself

It was only last week that a Reserve Bank employee (one Moorosi) was successfully sued by CCMA commissioner, now this?! It means one will have to be more careful about what he/she does or says.

If only premier Kiviet was as enthusi8astic about sorting out the sorry mess her party has made of the Eastern Cape as she is about exacting retribution in what she terms "defamation". Noxolo, get your priorities right and some of us will start taking you seriously ---- seriaaaas, hey.

  • Tshe - 2012-04-02 13:34
