Premier not the drunken woman in video

2012-04-02 12:17
East London - Eastern Cape Premier Noxolo Kiviet is not the woman seen making racist remarks in a YouTube video that went viral, a report says.

Local sports club owner Thoko Mlonyeni is actually the woman in the controversial clip, The Saturday Dispatch reported.

The cellphone recording, posted on YouTube by Capetonian Ben Jensen, shows a woman in a sports bar laughing and joking. She says:  “All blacks are liars. Only white people tell the truth.”

The video was reportedly filmed just before midnight on 24 February.

It was alleged that the video showed Kiviet in the Old Selbornian Club in East London bragging about skipping her court appearance earlier this year.

The ANC in the Eastern Cape responded with anger to the video, condemning both Jensen and media outlets which posted the clip.

Kiviet’s spokesperson, Manelisi Wolela , said the ruling party had  instructed their attorneys to take legal action against those who had  spread the video, the Dispatch reported.

“I am going to nail the person that posted the video,” Kiviet told the newspaper.

The premier said she had known about the video for quite a while “but at first I thought the person who filmed it should just go to hell.  Now that it has spiralled out of control, I am disgusted”.

She said Jensen was “silly” and his actions amounted to defamation. She said she’s never even heard of the Old Selbornian Club.
