Johannesburg - Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane on Sunday visited a nurse who had been attacked by striking public servants at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital last week, her spokesperson said.
"The visit is still in progress... the premier is there and visiting the nurse who is in ICU," spokesperson Sipho Mokoena said in a telephone interview on Sunday.
The nurse had been rushed to Milpark hospital on Friday evening after being badly beaten, allegedly by striking workers for turning up at work.
Just one day earlier, a non-striking nurse in Pietermaritzburg had been stabbed at Northdale Hospital in KwaZulu-Natal.
Mokonyane will later visit Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto where she was expected to speak to health workers, Mokoena said.
It was not clear what the premier would discuss.
