Presidency prepares for State of Nation

2013-02-12 09:04
Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma and Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe start community and stakeholder outreach programmes on Tuesday in preparation for the State of the Nation address this week.

The programmes would give the presidency the opportunity to hear the views of the public on a number of issues, it said.

Zuma would visit the Tshwane South Further Education and Training (FET) college in Mabopane, Pretoria.

Zuma, who met FET college principals last year, wanted first-hand experience of how they operated, given the emphasis the government was placing on the development of the technical skills needed in the economy, the presidency said.

He would be accompanied by Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande and Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba.

Zuma delivers his State of the Nation address to a joint sitting of Parliament on Thursday.

The presidency said Motlanthe would visit farmers and farmworkers in Paarl, in the Western Cape, on Tuesday.

He would hold talks under the theme "Dialogue with the farming sector for the advancement of sustainable rural development and social cohesion".

The talks would focus on the agriculture sector's potential as a major employment creator, as identified in the National Development Plan (NDP).

He would be accompanied by Rural Development and Land Reform Minister Gugile Nkwinti and Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson.
