Pretoria cops foil hijacking

2011-12-02 12:04

Pretoria - Five men have been arrested after a hijacking was foiled in Garsfontein in Pretoria East, Gauteng police said on Friday.

They tried to hijack a Land Rover and police were alerted on Thursday afternoon, Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale said.

When police arrived, a shoot-out ensued and the group tried to escape in a van. Police gave chase and the five men abandoned their getaway vehicle and fled into a nearby field.

With assistance from a helicopter police cornered all five men, aged between 30 and 45.

"Two of them sustained injuries and were taken to hospital."

The five were charged with attempted hijacking and would appear in court soon.

Well done cops. What I would like to know is why these injured thugs get taken to a private hospital and not to a state one. Why should they benefit at our expense?
