Pretoria physio's case postponed

Johannesburg - The sentencing of physiotherapist and
fraudster Jurry Sehunoe was postponed in the Pretoria Commercial Crimes Court,
the labour department said on Wednesday.
The postponement was granted by the court after Sehunoe's
defence called for the department to bring its financial expert, who would
justify the value of the amounts involved in the fraud.
Sentencing is now scheduled for 22 January.
Sehunoe, 34, of Rustenburg in the North West, pleaded
guilty in October 2011 to 15 counts of fraud and 26 counts of money-laundering.
He is out on a bail of R3 000.
Mokgadi Pela, acting departmental spokesperson, said
pre-sentencing reports from the correctional services and social development
department had been submitted for sentencing.
Sehunoe siphoned money from the department by submitting
fraudulent claims to the Compensation Fund for patients he did not treat.
He defrauded the department of about R2.1m.
The fraudster was allegedly recruited by members of a
syndicate, which included former employees of the fund.
The syndicate then processed the fictitious claims and
its members would later meet and share their loot.
Sehunoe was charged with two men - Maxwell Ramaphosa and
Samuel Mfeleng - both former employees of the Department of Labour.
The case against Ramaphosa and Mfeleng was transferred to
the Pretoria Magistrate's Court.
The duo pleaded not guilty in the matter and are both out
on bail of R3 000 each.
