Johannesburg - A woman was seriously injured when her car slid on ice and crashed in Pretoria on Friday morning, paramedics said.

She lost control and hit a wall on Achilles Street, leaving the car suspended over a ditch, Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said.

She was badly injured in the accident, but the three children in the car with her were unhurt. She was taken to hospital.

Residents in the south of Johannesburg, especially in Vereeniging, had to slow down because of heavy fog.

SA Weather Service forecaster Jan Vermeulen said rain fell in the Johannesburg and Pretoria area late on Thursday and early Friday.

Snow fell over the northern and southern Drakensburg, in KwaZulu-Natal, and on the mountains in Lesotho. There were reports of light snow in Sasolburg overnight.

''We don't expect any more rain and showers except in KwaZulu-Natal, where there will be showers and thunderstorms," Vermeulen said.
