Priest held after girl's exorcism death

2011-11-17 11:38

Port Elizabeth - A priest and members of his congregation have been arrested for killing a child in Humansdorp, Eastern Cape police said on Thursday.

Lieutenant Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the 22-year-old priest and four of his congregants were arrested on Wednesday.

Naidu said they killed the 7-year-old girl while conducting a violent exorcism a week ago.

"The parents and the church members felt that the child was demonised [possessed] and needed prayer," said Naidu.

Internal injuries

During the exorcism, they realised the girl needed medical attention and tried to take her to hospital, but she died on the way there.

A post-mortem revealed that she had sustained internal injuries.

Naidu said that on the night of the girl's death, police found bruises on her body and had noted that her eyes were swollen.

"It is suspected that for that hour or two, the girl must have been pushed back and forth while she was being prayed for," she said.

The five men arrested were expected to appear in the Humansdorp Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

I just have one question: when will it end? This is now 2011. When?

      Fred - 2011-11-17 12:25

Religion really is the lifestyle of the delusional and sociopath. This pretty well encapsulates all the reasons I hate religion. At the end of the day, it's all ugly, petty, inhumane tripe.

@ clive - prove it. guess not then...

We know absolutely nothing about this case other than that a 7 year old girl died. Unless the priests has actually physically hit the girls, let's reserved judgement until more facts become available. Last I checked 'Prayer' does not kill a child and it usually is highly unlikely that five members of a church would all conspire to murder a child in front of their parents.

The problem here, is that we have a behind closed doors incident without all the facts. What really happened in that room is the question. Some religious zealots would beat a child if they believed that it might somehow expel the evil within her. That's just wrong though! You shouldn't have to use brutal force on someone if you know what you're doing and the exorcism happens as it should. These guys were probably inexperienced (22-year-old priest ???). They probably didn't know what they heck they were doing.

      Robert - 2011-11-17 12:19

Fred you believe in nothing, or you seem to suggest that. That's fine for you, don't criticise/mock me for choosing to believe differently. No-one's attacking you, but why the hostility to me and other's who do believe? What's it to you anyway?

      Kaizer - 2011-11-17 12:31

@robert - Fred is what i like to call a "moangat" - he is too spineless to believe in anything so he disrespects and insults millions of people who does. Classic case of peer pressure gone wrong

      Gerhard - 2011-11-17 12:38

Robert. The fact is that a little girl has died in the name of religion. SHE WAS SEVEN!! She died because of Bullsh*t that supposedly adults believed in! That is the reason for the hostility. Someone has died once again because of your ignorance!!!

      skootzie - 2011-11-17 13:01

Reserve judgement? They not only killed someone, they killed a little girl. That's enough provocation for me to pass judgement in my opinion.

this is a senseless death which could have been avioded, for Christians i know that there is absolutely no need to "shake" a person to cast out a demon...prayer and a laying of hands can suffice if you have the God given gift...

      Jeffrey - 2011-11-17 12:21

The real demon is religion. It all stems from that.

      Fred - 2011-11-17 12:22

Pray tell - how do you cast out a demon? This is hilarious. Please, please tell us about these demons and where can I see one.

YOH... this is hectic... and now she is gone... so nobody will ever know the truth... eish... RIP

  • George - 2011-11-17 12:26

How on earth is this possible in 2011? The "priest" seems to be very young. He should be tried and sent to jail along with his bunch of crazy friends. this is nothing short of a national disgrace.

u know a bruise doesn't just come from nowhere and if u hit me I will definitely cry. If u have seen this people how they behave when they do this exorcism!!! Im sure when the poor girl cried the 1st time, they thought its the demon and they kept on beating the poor girl. I mean really, if u r doing this exorcism, everything should be healed when the demon goes out, why suddenly did they think medical doctors should be involved? one could think the demon came out and immediately found its next victim, just this time the next victim was this priest and in return the demon used them to kill the kid...shame at only 7yrs...sad

I am a Christian and Jesus NEVER did this to anyone, nor did he tell us to do this in fact He rejected people who claimed to do these things "for Him". Read matthew 7:22 Those men murdered a frightened little girl who probably was fighting to survive! Demons ~ My Bum!
