Durban - Durban businessman Prince Sifiso Zulu will be released from jail
after spending only nine months of his three-year sentence, the Witness
reported on Tuesday.
In 2008, Zulu's car went through a red traffic light and crashed into a
vehicle, killing two and injuring eight others.
KwaZulu-Natal correctional services commissioner Mnikelwa Nxele said Zulu
had applied for special remission of his 36-month sentence.
"When he arrived in prison the president [Jacob Zuma] had just
announced that all prisoners will be given a six-month remission to their
sentences, while those who had committed non-violent crimes would get an
additional 12 months," Nxele was quoted as saying by the Witness.
This resulted in Zulu's sentence being cut to 18 months and he became
eligible for parole after serving nine months.
He will be released next week.
