Johannesburg - The principal of a primary school in southern Johannesburg has been suspended for allegedly arriving for work drunk, the Gauteng education department said on Friday.
"He has been suspended, he will not be at school on Monday," spokesperson Charles Phahlane said.
The principal would be served with a charge sheet and an internal disciplinary process would begin.
The school and the principal could not be named as this could prejudice the process.
On Tuesday the department launched an investigation after a tip-off from Lead SA.
Officials visited the school and questioned the headmaster, who left the premises, but returned two hours later to fetch his car and found the officials still waiting for him.
