Prison warden arrested for helping prisoners
Johannesburg - A Wellington prison warden will appear in the Mthatha Magistrate's Court after seven prisoners escaped, Eastern Cape police say.
Spokesperson Marinda Mills said: "A 30-year-old male, employed by Correctional Services in Mthatha, who was on duty at the time of the escape, was arrested in Bedford.
“He had been on suspension."
The seven "dangerous" awaiting trial prisoners escaped from the Mthatha prison on March 20.
The warden, who was arrested on Friday, was charged with aiding a prisoner to escape.
