Prisoners overpower cops, on the run

Johannesburg - Eight prisoners escaped from holding cells at a police station in Esikhawini, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Thursday.

The prisoners allegedly overpowered two police officers, took their guns and escaped at 20:30 on Wednesday, Captain Thulani Zwane said.

The prisoners are Siboniso Mdletshe, 28, Sibonelo Mpanza, 29, Sibusiso Zulu, 21, Nduduzo Mnguni, 29, Boy Mlungwana, 31, Bheki Mazibuko, 19, Sibusiso Mnguni, 24 and Sthembiso Mdletshe, 25.

The men were held for various cases including murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, rape and possession of property suspected to be stolen.

Cases of escaping from lawful custody and robbery have since been opened.

Members of the public were advised not to confront the men as they were regarded as dangerous criminals.

    Fucking chops. If an engineer fucks up and gets people killed he is charged... If these men commit any more crime let the officers be held equally responsible.

    kak man, how can they overpower police when they are in holding cells, they were sitting eating kfc with their police choms, laughing about the murders and crime, saying what a wonderfull country.

    These murderers, rapist, thieves did not escape from JAIL. They escaped from Correctional Services - a place where you go to be "reborn", forgive for your actions and then get to decide on various programs, educations & hobbies of your interest paid by you and me. I hope that this institution is on FULL lock down until they caught each and every one of these low life scumbagsā€¦and that serious steps are put in place across all SA correctional services to prevent this from happening.
