'Progress' in fight against crime
Cape Town - The latest crime statistics released by Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa highlight the progress being made in fighting crime, Cabinet said on Thursday.
Briefing the media following Cabinet's regular Wednesday meeting, government spokesperson Themba Maseko said the stats were "a tangible indication" of the government's commitment to create a safe society.
"Government will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety of our citizens," he said.
The government acknowledged and welcomed the role played by communities, civil society, and businesses in the fight against crime.
The collaboration between the police and the various partners should be strengthened to achieve the target of reducing crime by seven percent a year, Maseko said.
