Protesters barricade Golden Highway

2012-06-04 10:07

Johannesburg - Several residents from Orange Farm in Gauteng barricaded sections of the Golden Highway during a service delivery protest on Monday, police said.

"The protesters are using rocks and tyres. The protest started at around 01:00, and it is still carrying on," Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said.

"We have police there to oversee the situation, and there has been no violence."

He said the protest was related to service delivery, but could not provide further details.

Johannesburg metro police spokesperson Superintendent Wayne Minnaar advised motorists to use the N1 highway as an alternative.

Why must honest, taxpaying citizens be re-directed to other roads? We pay licence fees, tax, tax on fuel etc to use whatever road in SA. All of a sudden all you hear is protests about service delivey. One guy heard something, which he didn't understand too well, and now everybody is jumping on this bandwagon. IF YOU WANT SERVICE, PAY FOR IT!! Why is it that everything must be broken and plundered everytime you dislike something? Now all the money must first be spent to reair the things you broke. How stupid can you get? Is this how you would like yourselves to be seen? Barbaric and useless to society?
