Protesters barricade Sandton road

2012-08-06 11:47

Johannesburg - Protesters barricaded Marlboro Drive in Sandton on Monday over service delivery issues, Gauteng police said.

Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale said a crowd blocked the road using rubbish and burning tyres from about 05:00.

While it was believed the disruption was a service delivery protest, Mogale said it was not immediately clear with which services the community was dissatisfied.

By 09:30 no injuries had been reported and no arrests had been made, Mogale said.

Police were monitoring the situation.

Why are the police just keeping an eye on them? It is obviously an illegal strike. Arrest them. Why must motorists always bear the brunt when every Dick, Tom and Harry feels like striking?
