Mbombela - The main road between Mbombela and KaNyamazane
has been blocked due to protests by residents of the Thekwane South township,
Mpumalanga police said on Wednesday.
The protest, linked to a new clinic in the township, began
around 04:00 on Wednesday, spokesperson Sergeant Gerald Sedibe said.
"There's a clinic that was recently opened. The
community wants the department of social development to employ community
members of Thekwane."
Provincial health MEC Candith Mashego-Dlamini had gone to
address the crowd. No one had been arrested and no property had been damaged.
Sedibe said some residents had not been able to get to work
as a result of the roadblock.
No vehicles, including public transport, were allowed to
pass on the road, which had been blocked with burning tyres and trees.
