Protests delay swearing in ceremony

2011-06-01 09:42

East London - The swearing in of councillors of the Mbizana municipality, in the Eastern Cape, has been postponed following protests over candidate lists, SABC radio news reported on Wednesday.

Last week, residents blockaded the entrance to the municipality's office.

It was reported that ANC members were protesting against the ward councillors elected on May 18.

SABC reported that the swearing in of the councillors had been postponed until Friday because of security concerns and the unavailability of Independent Electoral Commission staff.

geez they haven't even taken office and there are already protests, one can only wonder what will happen if they are caught with their hands in the cookie jar

      paulf - 2011-06-01 09:54

This is what they will get. Zuma said they must vote and will sort out councellors After the election. Now they have it, how on earth can they trust the ANC??????

      saabnut - 2011-06-01 09:55

They will all be promoted to make way for the next upcoming bunch of trough- dwellers...

      paulf - 2011-06-01 09:56

PS: Watch this space as this is only the Beginning, plenty more to come....

      shew - 2011-06-01 10:00

it really does defy belief. you vote for a party, and then immediately thereafter you protest against what you voted for!

      saabnut - 2011-06-01 10:03

There they take my post off again- chicken#$^% News24. Zuma lied about revising the candidate lists after elections, and they stupidly believed him. Now they must live with it- simple...

      saabnut - 2011-06-01 10:04

Thank you News24- it is back again.

      Martin du Plessis - 2011-06-01 10:06

Better than voting for a "white" party, apparently (read: dark depressive sarcasm)

      saabnut - 2011-06-01 10:14

@ shew: and then when they spin you the next yarn, you belive them YET AGAIN!!! How thick can one be?

  • 1gascan - 2011-06-01 09:53

2 weeks today after municipal elections... ANC did say "Vote for us now and we will fix it later". True to their word, it hasn't been done. You get what you vote for.

      Dr Filemon - 2011-06-01 09:55

Yip, zooma asked his sheeple to vote for fraudulent candidates - par for the course taken from whence it comes. Vote aNc - we can do so much more (fraud)

  • saabnut - 2011-06-01 09:54

well done ANC supporters, well done indeed! Once again you believed the drivel Zuma fed you about entertaining your concerns after the elections, you voted for his circus, and scarcely two weeks later you are protesting. Excellent job- you all deserve EXACTLY what you voted for. Enjoy...

  • Gorilla - 2011-06-01 10:04

Well done for voting ANC. At least we have a democracy. Good luck with that.

  • Slingervel - 2011-06-01 10:05

Tough cookies for all you idiots in the Mbizana municipality! You voted for the ANC and you deserve what is coming your way. Shut up and suffer!

      saabnut - 2011-06-01 10:08

@ Gorilla and Slingervel: Here, here!

      Creeky - 2011-06-01 20:34

SUFFER SHEOPLE SUFFER!!! You get what you voted for... LIARS with 17 years experience!!!!

  • York Hunt - 2011-06-01 10:07

Typical of the ANC modus operandi AND indicative of the intelligence, or rather lack hereof, of their voters. Not at all surprised actually. Like a previous reader already said, MORE to come...

      Jabu Mbongo - 2011-06-01 11:33

Not 'lack hereof', rather 'lack thereof'. Unless if you mean your lack thereof...!

  • falcon2020 - 2011-06-01 10:14

@ALL you have no idea what it is like to be a black person from Nbizana - they should be allowed to vote again and draw up new lists - spare a thought for the cannon fodder, the Anc is willing to use, their rural and poor communities as.

      liesl - 2011-06-01 11:04

Falcon, agreed ... but eish! They were not happy with the candidate but they must have still voted for him/her. why not then vote for the party, but for another candidate? There were two papers mos.

  • Matt - 2011-06-01 10:17

I know these idiots are the majority party, but I can't help but laugh... - People upset with their councillors - ANC says "vote for us and we'll fix it afterwards" - People vote ANC - Now the ANC wants to swear in the same councillors anyway - And the voters really believed the ANC gives a f*** about them... EISH! How dumb can you get... This is a better idea people: - People upset with their councillors - ANC says "vote for us and we'll fix it afterwards" - People say "f*** you ANC, do it now" - ANC does it before the elections. If not, you vote for someone else who WILL give you councillors you are happy with. Just a suggestion peeps...

  • Martin du Plessis - 2011-06-01 10:20

You know what, i've had it. Let them keep the rest of the country. Let them vote for the same cesspit they live in again and again. Why should the rest of us care? The intelligent people can come live in the WC and have living conditions above that of a dead skunk and let the rest of the country rot away into civil war like the rest of africa. You get what you vote for. Of you can't comprehend this by now, tough luck to you.

      Matt - 2011-06-01 10:39

Dude, the WC has no jobs, that's why we're all in JHB...

      Martin du Plessis - 2011-06-01 10:43

      Good luck to you then.

      Sonneblom1971 - 2011-06-01 11:08

I agree with Matt, we wanted to move to WC a couple of years back, but finding a job is near impossible!

      paulf - 2011-06-01 11:25

Not just that jobs are scarce, cost of living is High and pay is S..T.

      VELOCITY - 2011-06-01 12:09

We want to seriously move to the WC, but no jobs in our profession. And the cost of housing is intergalactically expensive.

      Martin du Plessis - 2011-06-01 16:08

      :( Sorry to hear that.

      DeonL - 2011-06-01 16:26

We have some offices open in Cape Town and surroundings to rent, why don't some of you take a chance and start a new business here? The best job is to be the owner of your own place.

  • Kpt_Keyboard - 2011-06-01 10:21

I'm a bit confused now... Can sum1 plz explain? They got what they voted 4 but now they r complaining?

  • Hmmmmmmmmm - 2011-06-01 10:23

  • YasButIDunno - 2011-06-01 10:34

I don't get why they're protesting at all, whoever the candidates are they will turn out the same: tow the party line, fill own pockets, F@ck the poor.

      YasButIDunno - 2011-06-01 10:38

Sorry, that should be "toe" the party line.

  • willieman - 2011-06-01 10:39

The chikens are coming home to roast.Mr Promise(ZUMA)told them he will solve the problem after the election. Now it is time to stick to your abusive partner

  • jakes - 2011-06-01 10:39

One can only laugh at these braindead ANC trolls!

  • Sho Fukamachi - 2011-06-01 10:45

There you go ANC voters. Another broken promise, but at least your masters are still in power. None of you should have the right to vote, as you are wasting it on utter incompetency, but then again, that is the administration you voted for.

  • Dan Steel - 2011-06-01 11:06

I hope these protestors live in utter misery for the next 5 years - you make your choice, you pay your price.

      jakes - 2011-06-01 11:08

Agree with you Dan, no more feeling sorry for these ANC followas!

  • Gary - 2011-06-01 11:11

lmao.................you get what you voted for.

  • african - 2011-06-01 11:20

As I understand it, at Municipal elections you vote for a person to represent you in the council. How can the government now decide to remove/replace elected representatives. This is sure contrary to the Constitution and is plainly anti-democratic (the will of the people). Any comments from ANC-supprters on this one?

      paulf - 2011-06-01 11:29

If you noticed many of the ANC wards did not put names or faces of candadites due to the unhappiness of elected councellors by the ANC. Zuma's picture was on many of these posters. Zuma told the people to still vote for the ANC and they will fix the candadites lists after the election. Now this is the verdict, ANC still trying to push their candidates they chose for the people.

  • Jabu Mbongo - 2011-06-01 11:32

People must check their 'English: grammar, spelling, tense, terminology, vocabulary or try taking a Language class" before they publicly comment or throw around ugly insults against our country that they live in! 'Democracy to me' means you have a right to complain, protest, debate etc. whether it's immediately or later, before or after voting. No time frames stipulated in the constitution. IQ levels of some comments are dropping and so very fast !!!

      falcon2020 - 2011-06-01 11:42

agreed - it just takes so much time to get these voters educated to your level, upon which they miraculously understand the new way!

      Dan Steel - 2011-06-01 11:56

Not so sure whether IQ levels in this country are dropping - seems to me they have been quite low for a while. Recently just demonstrated graphically - by protesting about a party that you voted in a couple of weeks ago!

      Elbie - 2011-06-01 11:58

Agreed, and it's about time people start protesting about all this swearing going on in these ceremonies!!

      Kpt_Keyboard - 2011-06-01 12:22

Deos sepllnig raley matetr, bcaeuse u can sitll raed waht i am syanig! So dont try to sound clever fool! Jabu do u even know what IQ stands for? And why is protesting even allowed? Settle it like humans and freakin behave! Ppl that believe that by voting anc they will go to heaven, keep madiba alive and make there ancestors happy should not even hav the privilege to vote cause of their IQ dificiency!

      saabnut - 2011-06-01 13:07

Another 'F' symbol over- achiever. Jabu for ANCYL teaboy!

      saabnut - 2011-06-01 13:08

Sorry, not tea- Johnny Walker Blue...

  • Moipone Bokaba - 2011-06-01 12:16

"Let them eat cake", they made their own beds...now they must lie in it and whilst at it, try and enjoy it cos the most powerful weapon of mass and crass destruction(ballot box)was there for them to use and they did not grab that opportuninty now they are "dancing on the streets", oh what music to my ears. They will regret more the things they did than that which they did not do.

      falcon2020 - 2011-06-01 12:19

but is not helping our country move forward....

  • hellcom666 - 2011-06-01 15:33

swearing in a ceremony , do we have to protest ! Not a good caption SAPA

      Elbie - 2011-06-01 16:18
