Pretoria - A Mamelodi man sought for several armed robberies was arrested in an early morning raid on Friday, said Pretoria police.
The 32-year-old man originally from Mamelodi east of Pretoria was arrested at his security complex home at Olievenhoutbosch in Centurion, Superintendent Piletji Sebola said.
The man is believed to be linked to several armed robbery cases committed in and around Pretoria in the past year.
Police confiscated five pistols and one revolver with a total of 68 rounds of ammunition, Sebola said. The serial numbers of two of the pistols had been filed off.
Other items recovered at the man's house included two pairs of balaclavas and five hand gloves. "These items, including the firearms and ammunition, were found stashed in a paper-bag in the back room shack," said Sebola.
Police were searching for accomplices.
"The man is currently in police custody and will appear in Pretoria magistrate's court early next week, on charges of robbery, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition," said Sebola.
