Johannesburg - Three armed men were arrested after attempting to steal a car in Pretoria North on Wednesday, police said.
Spokesperson Constable Sam Shivambo said the men armed with 9mm pistols were disturbed by a car guard while allegedly attempting to steal a car at the Kolonade Mall parking lot at 14:00.
"They ran away and used a taxi on Zambezi Drive. When inside, [they instructed] taxi driver? to drive them to Mamelodi," said Shivambo.
However, a police officer who was in the vicinity saw them and called for back-up.
All three, in their 20s, were arrested and would appear in the Pretoria North Magistrate's Court on charges of attempted theft, possession of unlicensed firearms and car hijacking, said Shivambo.
