Durban - A 16-year-old boy from Lesotho, believed to be on a school outing, has died  after he knocked his head against a pole in full view of his fellow pupils on Thursday.

KwaZulu-Natal EMS spokesperson Robert McKenzie said the bus carrying schoolchildren, believed to be on an outing, was travelling down a narrow road, Dick King, off Anton Lembede Street [Smith Street] in the Durban CBD when the accident happened.

“It is believed that the boy’s head was [sticking] out of the window and the driver drove past a street pole on the side of the road," he explained.

One of the other pupils on the bus had to be taken to hospital for trauma treatment,” said McKenzie.

News24's reporter Amanda Khoza is on the way to the scene and updates will soon follow.
