Pupils rampage at school after stabbing

2012-03-02 17:47
Cape Town - Pupils went on the rampage at a Johannesburg school on Friday, in the aftermath of the fatal stabbing of a boy at the school earlier in the week.

According to the Star newspaper, police had to be called in to Vorentoe High School in Auckland Park after emotions flared when pupils were told that the five boys allegedly suspected in the stabbing may be released on bail.

A large group - between 10 and 20 according to witnesses - brought classes to a halt just before 08:00 when they started smashing windows, writing on walls and disrupting other classes.

Teachers had been unable to stop the rowdy group and had called emergency services for back-up to help get the school under control, the Star said.

The chaos followed the brutal stabbing of a Grade 11 pupil just outside the school property on Wednesday.

Five pupils from another school were to appear in the Newlands Magistrate's Court after being arrested in connection with the murder.
