R12m heroin bust at OR Tambo

Johannesburg - Heroin with a street value of R12m was confiscated at OR Tambo International Airport on Thursday, national police said.

Spokesperson Tummi Golding said an Emirates flight from India which arrived in the morning was carrying the consignment - destined for a pharmaceutical company in South Africa.

"We found the consignment around 16:30 when we were checking the cargo... no arrests were made as we still investigating."

Another consignment, of fake DVDs, was found on an SAA flight from Lagos in Nigeria. It was destined for Harare, Zimbabwe.

The DVDs had a street value of R10m, Golding said.
