R30m Lotto ticket unclaimed

2011-10-04 10:01

Durban - Have you perhaps won R30m? It’s possible, if you are from Umhlanga Rocks in KwaZulu-Natal and bought a lottery ticket late last year.

The SABC reports that lottery operator Gidani has appealed to the public to check their tickets after someone with the lucky ticket failed to come forward to claim their prize.

The winning ticket was bought almost a year ago for the draw on November 20  2010.

The ticket holder only has until October 21 to collect the winnings.

The lucky numbers were: 7, 17, 34, 37, 38, 39, Bonus Ball 36

  • Wendy - 2011-10-04 10:26

Wow, but who would keep an old ticket for a year ???? Give the money to a needy and deserving cause after the 21st inst.

      roboman1 - 2011-10-04 10:57

Thats what I love, a true philanthropist. I have a bank account number here for the truly needy, I will forward it to the lotto people

      HiJack - 2011-10-04 11:50

      Who determines who is needy?

      IceMan - 2011-10-04 14:59

i have tickets which i have not checked, and some over a yr old which I havent either (i def will not chk those) .... but i am still trying to think whether i purchased one in umhlanga

      Geo - 2011-10-05 04:42

Don't worry, Zuma or Juluis will take it as they know how to take and use money that is not theirs.

  • letsee - 2011-10-04 10:30

When the lotto machines do not read the tickets, the employees enter that long number manually. If there a typing error the reply is no prize. I had one of those tickets but kept it and later found that there was a small prize. When I contacted Gidane to take the maintenance of machines seriously I was told of their commitment and 3 weeks later the same machine could not read tickets yet. It is becomming common in South Africa to have commitments given to people that can't make it work. Gidane seems not to deserve the license to run the lotto

      Freakfloyd - 2011-10-04 10:47

True, letsee, its happpened to me, and I have to double check, one say not winning ticket, next shop say "winning ticket" I dont trust them.

      Jon - 2011-10-04 13:42

I never play lotto but when I do I ask teh cashier to check and double check and triple check tickets. Its all rigged anyway I believe

  • Mlu - 2011-10-04 10:32

I was in Umhlanga that time, I think. Damn where's my ticket?

      Currie_Mafia - 2011-10-04 10:38

      I also got a ticket in Umhlanga...doing 95 in a 80 zone.

      IC1 - 2011-10-04 10:52

@Currie_Mafia: that was awesome thanks 4 the chuckle

      Steen - 2011-10-04 11:00

@Currie i almost fell off my chair.

      pointsetia - 2011-10-04 16:23

currie - love your sense of humour. nice one!!

  • NativeAfrica - 2011-10-04 10:48

Yoh 30 metre and u dont know u won its most probably someone rich who just played for the fun of it or rather drunk idiot who passed out and forgot he played it but hey only in Mzantsi

      IC1 - 2011-10-04 10:54

      WTF: 30metres???

      Enigma - 2011-10-04 11:19

Okaaay IC1 no need to be confused, I'll educate for free. 30 metre is a kasi lingo (ie township language) for 30 million rand. Please don't hesitate to shout for other free lessons as I'll be very pleased to be of your assistance....LOL

      IC1 - 2011-10-04 11:48

@Enigma: I feel so much more enlightened indeed, but I think that only in a township can you "associate" metres with millions, soundpretty doff cause there are only 1000mm in a metre, so not sure how you guys get to the million part of it??

      Paul - 2011-10-04 12:09

@Ic1. i would guess it is because you write R30m which could easily be read as metre.

      Enigma - 2011-10-04 12:33

@IC1- As Iv'e said before it's only kasi lingo and yes you're quite right it sounds doff but hey we use it and we understand it.

      IC1 - 2011-10-04 12:46

@Paul: I guess the capital "R" just gets me every time LOL @Enigma: +-30million township dwellers(past&present) cant all be wrong I guess, I bow to your better knowledge, all very good LOL

  • Steen - 2011-10-04 10:59

That ticket is long lost, give tghe money to that Boere Group to start their own land and Goverment.

      IC1 - 2011-10-04 12:49

@Steen: They (Boere) have only been asking for that (self-determination) for the past 17 years, so why not let them have their way.

  • tHeOrAcLe - 2011-10-04 11:25

I will cash it in 2 days before deadline, so don't worry i have it safe and sound.

  • Pius Ntuli - 2011-10-04 11:36

Some people are strange how can you play lotto and not check if you have won or not. I wish its me who will be R30m richer. one day is one day

  • crocodile - 2011-10-04 11:38

this whole thing about unclaimed tickets is suspect. Gidani pls come clean and stop scheming. the whole organisation is your friends from your lawyers . auditors and every body around dance for your tune, not so they are out. why every body around you guys happen to be a multi millioner.

  • Sisie - 2011-10-04 11:41

I put it in a very safe place so that i wouldn't loose it - but for the life of me i can't remember where that is.

  • McDaNife - 2011-10-04 12:01

My ticket, am just waiting for the last day to claim it. Must be a guy coz if it was a lady winner she would be waiting before the door opens for business the next day and that poor soul his wife could have washed his shirt with the winning ticket in the pocket.

      Sebastien - 2011-10-04 14:38

What does gender have to do with cashing in on a winning ticket? Pray enlighten me, for I am just a silly humble man who forgets to check his lottery tickets for winning numbers.

  • King - 2011-10-04 12:32

It seems like he doesn't need it. Umhlanga Rocks is a posh place to begin with.

  • robadog - 2011-10-04 12:53

    i'm needy, I Need a new boat I Need a new mother-in law !!

  • M.H - 2011-10-04 13:11

I find it quite odd - and this is not the first time - that a completely random pick can spit out 4 numbers that happen to be sequential 36..37..38..39...

      King - 2011-10-04 16:02

Actually, it would have been more impressive had they come out in that order. As things stands picking 6 balls from the container can be done in 720 or 6! ways. As things stand the odds of winning the lotto are 1 in 13,9 million. That figure would have to be multiplied by the 720 if the order of the balls was important. Thank goodness because nobody would get it.

  • EnglishBoer - 2011-10-04 13:35

    Give the money to Afriforum.

  • Marmaxi - 2011-10-04 13:46

doubt they would need it anyway.. umhlanga rocks?

  • shoes.tsipane - 2011-10-04 14:23

  • Levett - 2011-10-04 15:14

Donate it to me. I will distribute the R30m fairly between cigarettes, redwine, fast cars & overseas trips.

  • amabok - 2011-10-04 15:30

    I've got it

  • DarkAgeCrusader - 2011-10-04 15:39

    Pick me, pick me :)

  • awonke.fongoqa - 2011-10-04 15:53

    give that man a Bells

  • popaai - 2011-10-04 16:15

more strange for me is the numbers 34, 36 , 37, 38, 39 wonder how they get that setup

      Fluke - 2011-10-04 16:35

Statistically all numbers should have the same miniscule chance of being picked. Consider the sequence 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, bonus 7. If you think that is unlikely, well, so is any other sequence. Therefore, the lottery is literally tax on people who can't do math.

      pointsetia - 2011-10-04 17:33

      what happened to number 35?

  • Enigma - 2011-10-04 17:13

I know a Nigerian who knows how to handle these things. He mails me daily with all my winnings.

      pointsetia - 2011-10-04 17:38

funny you say that. wonder if it is the same nigerian that wants to give me big bucks every other week? and i don't even enter anything nogal!
