R4.5m in good seized at Western Cape borders

Johannesburg - Drugs, counterfeit items and other goods worth about R4.5m were seized this week at various borders in the Western Cape, police said on Sunday.

"We confiscated 409kg of dagga to the estimated value of approximately R1.2m, 111 grams of tik to the approximate value of R2 000" Captain Malcolm Pojie said.

Counterfeit goods including: clothing, toys and cellphones to the value of R3.09m were seized.

A 29-year-old man was also arrested on Monday with 2 660 bundles of Khat worth about R133 000.

Thirty-four people were arrested on drug-related charges during the clean-up operation which began on Monday and ended on Saturday, Pojie said.

The arrests were made at various borders between Western Cape, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape.

A total of 288 arrests made for various crimes including possession of stolen goods, dealing in liquor without a licence, burglaries, business robberies and other minor offences, Pojie said.
