Johannesburg - Radiossondergrense (RSG) station manager Sarel Myburgh died at his home in Johannesburg on Tuesday night after a short illness, the SABC announced on Wednesday.
Myburgh joined the SABC in December 1972 as a junior announcer. He then moved on to become an announcer in 1974 and was promoted to senior announcer in 1982.
Myburgh served at the SABC as a specialist announcer for about four years before becoming manager for presentation and administration in 1987.
SABC spokesperson Paul Setsetse said having already served 25 years at the SABC, Myburgh was promoted to manager of RSG in 1997.
"Myburgh's wealth of experience and knowledge played an important role in ensuring that RSG provided our Afrikaans speaking listeners with the best programming.
"His dedication to RSG has yielded positive results as the station still continues to grow," said group chief executive Peter Matlare.
"Myburgh will be sadly missed by SABC management and staff," Setsetse said.
