Radovan Krejcir to apply for bail

2012-02-16 07:27

Johannesburg - Czech businessman Radovan Krejcir, who was arrested in connection with an armed robbery, will apply for bail in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Krejcir was arrested at his home in Bedfordview, east of Johannesburg, on Sunday afternoon.

His alleged accomplices, Jason Dominguez and Veselin Langanin were arrested in Bryanston and at a restaurant in Sandton.

The three were being held for their alleged involvement in an armed robbery in Pretoria in October.

They allegedly entered a Pretoria West shop and held the owner at gunpoint before making off with R200 000.

There was a subsequent shoot-out in which Dominguez was reportedly injured.

Interpol

On Monday State prosecutor Casper Kruger sought a two-day postponement to allow police time to verify various details of the three accused, including whether they were wanted by Interpol.

However, advocate Mike Hellens argued the defence had been prepared to provide all information since October 26 last year and that the State's attempt to seek an additional two day postponement was "an exercise of police power for power's sake".

He said Krejcir was known to police and there was nothing further that needed to be verified.

Magistrate Maryke De Larey said police should verify all details they needed to by the time of the formal bail application.

The smumbag has overstayed his welcome in SA. Get rid of him and his cronies. Keep them locked up. We have enough other criminals on free foot.

  • Paula - 2012-02-16 09:25

Come one come all..The open policy and easy access to SA has led to this madness.Immigrants coming into SA with the purpose of promoting this rubbish. The government needs to start looking after SA citizens and stop protecting the scumbags that are tarnishing our country...We have such limited resources and such a high population yet our very hospitable government invites over everyone for a lavish dinner whilst his own"family" are cold and hungry...But as long as there are happy and well fed why care of the people who put where you are....Lord have mercy...

  • Desmond - 2012-02-16 09:27

Give him bail and escort him directly onto a plane destined for Czechslovaklia. He can face the music there and save the South African taxpayer a lot of money.

  • Bibi - 2012-02-16 11:58

Why is it so easy for criminals to enter and work in South Africa. This guy entered our ports with false documentation, been arrested a couple of times and he is still here! The club/restaurant protection services are run by foreigners and they are all still here, despite the fact that they intimidate restaurant owners. It takes years of red tape to legally work here as a doctor or a nurse. Cape town is flooded with foreigners on a weekly basis, where and how do they enter the country legally?
