Randburg cops held over R3 000 bribe

2012-05-03 16:25

Johannesburg - Three policemen were arrested in Randburg on Thursday for allegedly soliciting a bribe, Gauteng police said.

Captain Pinky Tsinyane said the three officers, aged between 30 and 35, arrested a man on 25 March and told him they would arrange for him to be released if he paid them R3 000.

The man, who was detained at Randburg police station, paid the bribe and was released the following day.

On Thursday, Randburg police and the Hawks arrested the three policemen while they were on duty.

"Gauteng police are committed to root out corruption in this province, and this is one of the many incidents confirming our commitment," Tsinyane said.

The three would appear in Randburg Magistrate's Court soon, she said.

603.... Yesterday the number of 'arrested' Policemen was reported at 600. And that reported by a Senior (?) Police Officer as 'good news'. At this rate there will be no Policemen left in this country by the end of this year. They are arrested quicker than they can be replaced. The 'boys in blue'.... Congratulations to those hard working, under equipped Police members who still take 'pride' in the Uniform they wear and the duties they perform. Your services are appreciated. Regrettably 'one bad' apple.....
