Ranger in court for rhino poaching

2012-07-23 12:01

Durban - An Ezemvelo Wildlife ranger and another man who were arrested for rhino poaching will appear in the Mtubatuba Magistrate's Court on Monday, the Mercury reported.

The two men were arrested on Friday after eight months of investigations. One of the men was arrested in Melmoth and the other in Mtubatuba.

When wildlife officials suspected one of their rangers for rhino poaching they transferred him to the anti-poaching unit so he could be closely watched.

"We moved the suspect to the anti-poaching unit only because we believed he was more of a threat at iMfolozi. We wanted him monitored by one person," head of conservation at Ezemvelo, Sifiso Kheswa, was quoted as saying in the Mercury.

Three white rhinos were killed in Hluhluwe and one in iMfolozi this weekend.
