Johannesburg - A couple who disappeared after being convicted nine years ago of the rape of their daughter, then aged seven, were finally sentenced to ten years each by the Roodepoort magistrate's court on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Paula Nothnagel said the former national boxing champion, 62, stood trial and was convicted in 1994 of the rape of his daughter and was sentenced together with his son to ten years in prison. His wife, 52, was sentenced to five years for aiding and abetting sexual assault.
The younger man served his sentence, but his parents disappeared after their leave to appeal was denied.
Nothnagel said police investigations coupled to the offer of a R25 000 reward unearthed the pair who had been living in Bitterfontein in the Northern Cape under assumed names since 1997.
During the 1994 trial the child described how she was tied hand and foot and repeatedly raped by her father and brother.
She also told the court in camera that her parents had worshipped the devil and forced her to take alcohol and dagga.
