Durban - The president's official residence in Durban was renamed on Thursday after the founder of the African National Congress.

Formerly known as King's House, the dwelling in the plush Morningside suburb was renamed Dr John L Dube House.

President Jacob Zuma along with Dube's daughter, Lulu Dube, unveiled a plaque to commemorate the occasion.

The house was completed in 1904.

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Zweli Mkhize believed the renaming of the residence "reconnects" with the province's history. He said he hoped to see more historic buildings renamed after struggle heroes.
