Resident given toilet to live in - claim

2012-07-24 22:35

Johannesburg - Public Protector Thuli Madonsela was met with many RDP housing concerns on her visit to KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday.

Her spokesperson Kgalalelo Masibi said grievances included an allegation that someone was given a toilet fitted with a geyser to live in, instead of a house.

"There were serious concerns regarding the role of councillors, including questions on who qualifies and [who] gets a house," Masibi said in a statement.

"Locals also raised concerns about sites that were allocated to people without subsidies to build houses, and waiting lists that disappeared from time to time."

Madonsela met with residents from Hambanathi township and areas surrounding Tongaat, outside Durban, on Tuesday.

This formed part of her inquiry into problems with RDP houses, and the illegal conversion of panel vans into minibus taxis.

Public hearings were being held in every province, starting on 12 July and ending 31 August.

Masibi said residents also raised concerns about the allocation of incomplete houses, and the role of engineers in certifying incomplete jobs.

Other complaints included people jumping housing queues, and houses being sold to foreign nationals.

"Responding to the complaints, the Public Protector assured community members that she had heard their concerns, which she noted... confirmed the existence [of] endemic RDP housing challenges."

Madonsela concludes her visit to the province at the Pietermaritzburg city hall on Wednesday.

Hahahahaha, well no sympathy here, the entitlement syndrome has gotta stop. If you want a roof over your head you gotta work for it and pay for it, just like many of us do. If I stop working I will find myself and my family on the street, nobody's gonna give us an RDP toilet

NO 1 - The government is destroying this country , keep voting for them NO 2 - Stop making so many effing babies , millions are unemployed , can`t feed themselves , BUT then they make 3 or 4 babies , WTF ??

@dee you know nothing about me. Yes I earn a decent paycheck, but you have no idea where and how I earn it. Let me just say that it requires sacrifice. I don't do a regular cushy 9-5 job, and I don't see my family for months at a time. I know many poor who sits all say drinking alcohol and doing drugs, expecting somebody else to provide for them, and they won't take the slightest initiative. I have had days where I had nothing in my pockets for food, so go f*** yourself

Devon : Here's a response to your plight - 'Hahahahaha, well no sympathy here, the entitlement syndrome has gotta stop' - and may I assume too that your hardships are due to 'sitting all day drinking alcohol and doing drugs, expecting somebody else to provide for them, and not taking the slightest initiative'. YES Devon, there are indeed some people who have ZERO wherewithall including initiative - and there by the Grace of God go you or I. AND IT IS NO LAUGHING MATTER so I trust you equally recognise the millions of impoverished people who live under extraordinary stress, doing the best they can to eke out a living - and who are worthy of a lifeline or handup.

Some of the high and mighty should be forced to live in a toilet with just a geyser for one week and see how fast things will change! Seeing that the are exempt from paying traffic fines, a just punishment for a week or two in a Loo seems fitting.. Just a thought to flush on.

ahhh, so not only are the ANC Government not obeying court orders to close toilets in Viljoenskroon after almost a year of promising immediate action "heads will roll, the ANC is here", remember that.....well seems now the ANC is making people sleep in toilets....just proves that the ANC doesn't give a crap about even its own black people, never mind other races....well you get what you vote for, lets hear what Mr Sexwale has to say about this, he is the minister of human settlement, maybe he should be called the minister of inhuman settlements.

How and Where will SA find houses for 100 million South Africans and illegals from africa?

  • gpitse - 2012-07-25 10:04

After toilet with geyser, WHO are you going to vote for ????? Its so sickening , shallow minds voting for the retards!!!

  • TawwaTienie - 2012-07-25 21:24

It must be investigated who received 2/4 or more houses, then they are selling these houses, also to illegals. Also Councillor involvement in the selling thereof.
