Rhino horn: Vietnamese man in court

2012-05-04 14:20

Johannesburg - A Vietnamese man allegedly found with three rhino horns appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court on Friday, the SA Revenue Service (Sars) said.

"The case was postponed to May 14," said spokesperson Adrian Lackay.

The 25-year-old, That Thai Dung, was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport on April 22 when the horns were found in his luggage.

The man was leaving South Africa when his bags were searched by the Hawks, Airports Company SA officials and Sars.

"The man has travelled to South Africa before and he was being closely monitored when he was arrested," Lackay said earlier.

He said Dung faced various charges, including contravening the Customs and Excise Act.

Was he granted bail?. I am also told that he was supported by a number of arrogant Vietnamese 'supporters'. Can you believe the gall of these mofos'. It is the duty of every South African to make him, his supporters and the like, so very unwelcome in this country. The prosecutors 'have to' find out who he got the horns from and which white South African businessman are behind the rhino poaching.

Think that the sooner the government floods the market with cheap and legal rhino horn the better. Twenty tons should last long enough to get the rhino population growing again. And maybe in the interim they can figure out a real way to save rhino from poachers. I wonder what all these people who believe that rhino horn cures disease will do for an alternative when there are no more rhino to poach.
