Cape Town - Two advocates, an attorney and a magistrate appeared in Wynberg rRegional court, Cape Town, on Thursday in separate cases linked to an alleged road-rage death.
Mitchell's Plain magistrate Sithebele Elvis Thebe is alleged to have shot dead a motorist late last year after the man apparently hit Thebe's car and drove off.
Bongani Phendula, 31, of RR 240 in Site B Khayelitsha was shot at point-blank range in the head.
The two advocates and the lawyer are alleged to have intervened unlawfully and told an inexperienced policeman that a magistrate could not be arrested.
Because of the alleged intervention, Thebe was allowed to leave the crime scene.
Advocates Afzal Valli and Vernon Jantjies and attorney Raymond Davies have not been charged with Thebe, but also appeared in court on Thursday.
They face a charge of defeating the ends of justice.
Wynberg regional court control prosecutor Janene Rheeder said both matters had been postponed to May 28 for further investigation.
She said the two cases were being heard separately.
