Roadblock nets thieves with cash box loot

2012-05-01 08:55

Johannesburg - Police arrested two suspected robbers at a road block in Soweto when they found cash boxes from a security company in the boot of their car and unlicensed guns, Gauteng police said on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said the car was stopped in Bram Fischer as part of a routine inspection of vehicles.

"There were five men in the car but when they saw the police three of them ran away," he said.

Two were cornered and arrested.

When police searched the vehicle they found the boxes and contacted G4, the security company identified on the sealed boxes.

"We think these men were on their way home from a robbery," said Makhubela.

"We don't know how much is in the boxes or where they come from."

The security company has been contacted to identify the boxes.

The arrested men, aged 26 and 27, are to appear in Roodepoort Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

      Squeegee - 2012-05-01 09:19

Something stinks about this story. "We think...We don't know..." Sounds about right for the police, but the security company?

      Stewart - 2012-05-01 09:48

      Jimmy. Jimmy. Jimmy.

      Razz - 2012-05-01 09:54

@ Jimmy. I am surprised the police did not go for the sharing the cache. They are best in doing that.

      Gestoffle - 2012-05-01 10:02

      @grace - It's not 35000 any more, soon to be 35002......

      Stewart - 2012-05-01 10:20

Razz. A box or two would not have been missed since this crime was not reported in the first place.

      Albert - 2012-05-01 12:26

Just go to parliament and arrest the whole anc government. you will have 95% of criminals immediately!

these are the thugs that kill cash in transit drivers, well done guys, in the US a huge number of criminals are caught by the police checking licenses, stopping drivers for minor offenses. The police & traffic cops need to have more presence on the roads, in my area you never see a traffic cop after 4:30. At 8:30 on Friday evening on the way back from the movies, we saw an idiot going around the circle the wrong way, he then cut in front of me, did a U-turn over the pavement & drove down the road in the wrong direction, He must have been on drugs, no cops in sight. The only time is see a traffic cop in table view is when he is trapping in a zone that they know is not a 60kph zone, He goes home when his camera is full. I never see him after dark, I think there is only one in the fastest growing suburb in Africa, this in an area where the Nigerians are trading drugs everywhere.

Job well done boys, our country would be a better place if we could have Cops of your calibre

  • Mike Purchase - 2012-05-01 10:02

  • Marinus - 2012-05-01 10:24

Well done, good to hear story's like this. I think it is important to know that, midst corruption etc, there ARE certainly officials that are eager and keen to establish and uphold law and order.

If they haven't killed or violated anyone then they should be released because this is to me another way of economic empowerment which is taking long to be transferred into the hands of black South Africans,at some stage force will be the only available option to regain economic freedom...Nationalisation and land grabs will soon be in the policy, and both this are an indication of a frustrated nation that urgently need to be empowered, its wrong for one person to own hectres while others are sharing a shack with 8 other people, its wrong for one person to live in a palace while others are sharing a shack, its wrong for one person to be playing with water in swimming pools while ther other doesn't have clean water to drink, its an injustice

      Grace - 2012-05-01 10:46

Uhmmmm.. Tumisang have you looked how YOUR government is living recently? They stealing from ALL of us! They the biggest crooks (lead by example??) Your president has 4 wives (currently) 23 children!!!! They are busy with on R64m 'home improvements'. Wake up dude... You can't afford to educate your couple of kids but you paying to educate HIS 23!!! PLUS PLUS PlUS

      Grace - 2012-05-01 10:50

And they HAVE violated the law - stolen cash in transit boxes and unlicensed firearms... Do you think they were planning to play paintball with those guns?

      bernedetter - 2012-05-01 11:15

I agree with Grace. We are so behind with technology, because of people who are sitting at the goverment pocketing our hard worked money for their personal gain. Look what happen to Aurora Mine, isn't that enough what happen to those innocent people. Now you are talking about nationalisation. You have to work hard in order get somewhere, don't depend on your corruptive goverment while you sit back and relax. We all are equal people.

      mahomed.mather - 2012-05-01 12:00

I hope someone steals your wages/salary and all those things that you have bought and they can say its economic freedom if caught.

      Rob - 2012-05-01 14:18

Tumisang............Less breeding = 1. More feeding. 2. less poverty. 3. Smaller, economically functioning families. 4. Less shacks. 5. Less unemployment. 6. Less crime. 7. More of " everything " to go round. Wasted on you though !

  • pws69 - 2012-05-01 11:01

One for the good guys. Suddenly those frequent stops are not quite as frustrating as before. I'll also say this, I've been stopped about a half a dozen times this year either in Sandton or Braamfontein, and the cops are always pleasant, and have never asked for a bribe.

  • Lekgwakgwa - 2012-05-01 11:47

Who we must trust if the police do crime

  • Mike Purchase - 2012-05-01 12:13

Tumisang shame on you,you probably come from mars although aliens are far more advanced than you.Your are going to choke on your own words when all you have left to eat is ground.

  • Albert - 2012-05-01 12:25

  • Rip - 2012-05-01 15:14

How did they manage to get the cash boxes into the unlicensed guns?

      seanpresherhughes_1 - 2012-05-02 01:47

"Into the unlicensed guns" ?...? Where the heck did you read that??

  • Vaedetta - 2013-09-05 15:34

Cops have a tendency of stopping any passenger vehicle that has a suspiciously high number of men(more than 3). I get the feeling that, it is on their training manual, one of the reason's I prefer having 2 passengers at most, especially if they both male (",).
