Robber dies in shoot-out with police

2012-08-05 20:54

Johannesburg - A robber has died in a shoot-out with police in Villeria, Pretoria, while trying to make his getaway after holding up a supermarket owner, police said on Sunday.

The man and an accomplice took a substantial amount of cash and cellphones in the robbery on Saturday, said Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini.

"While fleeing from the scene, they fired a shot and took a security guard's firearm," he said.

"They jumped into a getaway vehicle, a Volkswagen Golf. A high speed chase by the police and security guards then ensued.

"As police caught up with them, several shots were fired at the police. Police returned fire and seriously wounded one suspect who later died."

Dlamini said the second robber was arrested, and that three firearms, including the guard's, were seized. Everything stolen from the supermarket was recovered.

The getaway car was impounded, as it was thought to have been stolen, he said.

Nice SAPS, only justice you guys get is when you kill the scum while the crime is process. Pity the other prick got off easy. You guys put your lives on the line, and I commend you for your bravery. Corrupt police always overshadows the police that do the hard work and believe they make a difference.

OO YES! Harold you are such a retard on this forum, how can you think that any non believers will end up robbing and raping? I'm an athiest and most of my friends are athiests too and we don't commit any crimes. Maybe I should generalise as well and claim that anyone who always starts their comments with oo yes is a freakin stupid person.

  • mart.botha - 2012-08-06 09:45

We must bloody well celebrate this as though it is another Olympic Gold Medal. The crims need to understand that we have no love for them...and that every single one of them that is despatched makes the future a bit brighter for the innocents.
