Robber just a phonecall away

Cape Town - Police are hot on the heels of a suspected cash-in-transit robber after he allegedly left his cellphone at the scene of the crime.
Nina Kirsten, a police spokesperson, said on Tuesday that the investigative team found the cellphone on Saturday shortly after 15 heavily armed men forced a security vehicle off the road near Rhodes Memorial. The men wounded four security guards and fled with about R1.8m.
Witnesses said the robbery was carried out with military precision and that the robbers apparently led police on a wild goose chase by giving them false details prior to the hit.
But the forgetfulness of one robber could lead to their downfall.
Police are apparently now going through the list of numbers stored on the phone as well as all dialed numbers.
Kirsten said the investigators had already tracked down at least one of the robbers' friends.
No one has been arrested as yet.
