Johannesburg - A suspected robber was shot dead and his accomplice wounded in a Linden restaurant, Johannesburg police said on Saturday.
Captain Bhekizizwe Mavundla said three men entered the Suan Thai restaurant and held the manager at gunpoint on Friday around 21:00.
"The men demanded money from the manager," Mavundla said. The restaurant's owner noticed what was going on and approached the men.
"In self defence the owner shot at the men. Two men were shot and the third ran away."
One of the robbers died at the scene and the other was taken to Helen Joseph hospital. No money was taken.
Police found a 9mm pistol and three empty cartridges at the scene.
"The third suspect will be arrested in due course," Mavundla said.
A case of attempted robbery was being investigated.
