Mthatha - A robber was killed in a police shoot-out at a KFC
outlet in Mthatha, police said on Wednesday.
Lieutenant Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela said four men entered a
KFC outlet on Owens Road, in the Mthatha CBD, on Wednesday night, ordered a
meal and ate like ordinary customers.
"The suspects waited until it was after 22:00 and then
they all pulled out firearms and demanded money," said Fatyela.
They took more than R15 000 and tried to steal a van which
was parked outside the KFC.
"Unfortunately for them, police were around and they
pounced on them. A shooting ensued between the police and the suspect. One of
the suspects was killed," Fatyela said.
A policeman was wounded, as was a robber. He was arrested on
the spot and was under police guard in hospital, Fatyela said.
The other two robbers escaped. Police were searching for
them.
