Robbers hijack police car

2010-09-07 08:30
Johannesburg - Cash-in-transit robbers hijacked a police car near Stilfontein on Monday.

According to Lesego Metsi, police spokesperson in the North West, police officers chased after about six robbers who had stolen money from a cash-in-transit van.

A gun battle broke out between police and the robbers. The robbers then jumped into the police car and raced off.

The car and the empty money containers were later found deserted in the same area.

“It’s a large amount, but we can’t say exactly how much,” said Metsi.

No suspects have been arrested yet.
