Cape Town - Robbers have shot dead a well-known vintage car enthusiast on his smallholding near Atlantis in the Western Cape.

It was reported that Ron Peffers, 74, was shot in the shoulder in the early hours of Friday morning after intruders broke in through a window, stated the Weekend Argus.

Peffers belonged to the Crankhandle Club, South Africa’s largest and oldest car club.

He often wrote for the Crankhandle Club’s newsletter.

Peffers’s wife, Amanda, was away visiting their daughter at the time. She spoke to her husband in hospital before he died.

A police spokesperson said one person was being questioned about the shooting.

Peffers is also survived by another daughter.
