Johannesburg - A school teacher has been shot dead by robbers at his home in Marapyane in Mpumalanga, police said on Wednesday.

The 42-year-old man was opening the gate to drive into the yard around 23:00 on Tuesday when the robbers accosted him, Sergeant Hastings Chaane said.

"They robbed the teacher of an undisclosed amount of money and shot him three times," he said.

He was declared dead on the scene.

Chaane said the robbers fled in the teacher's Toyota Corolla.

The murdered man, whose name was not disclosed, was a teacher at the Seruane High School in Lefisoane village.
