Bloemfontein - A young woman from Bloemfontein was stabbed by robbers who used either a screwdriver or a knife in the attack.

“I don’t know why they did it. I gave them what they wanted,” said Lauré Amicke van Rensburg, 21, on Sunday, reported Volksblad.

She was on her way to visit a friend who was working at a hotel at the Loch Logan Waterfront in Bloemfontein when the men accosted her, asking her for money. She gave them her cellphone and handbag.

When she tried to run away, one of the men stabbed her twice in her left shoulder.

She was taken to her friend at the hotel, apparently by passers-by.

Her father was called and when he arrived, found her lying in a pool of blood on a bathroom floor in the hotel.

She was taken to hospital for treatment, where it was established that one of her lungs had also been damaged in the attack and had collapsed.

“For such a small body, she’s got the heart of lion,” wrote Cobus van Rensburg about his daughter on his Facebook page.

A Waterfront spokesperson said they were concerned about the incident and would help police in every way to apprehend the suspects.
